Youth Leadership Program

Our youth are an important part of our community, this is how we support them with our leadership program

Developing Future Leaders

In an effort to help develop the future leaders of our communities and state, Pearl River Valley Electric participates with other rural electric cooperatives in Mississippi in a statewide Youth Leadership Program.

The program is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about electric power associations, how and why cooperatives operate, and how electricity is distributed, in addition to sharpening their leadership skills.

Each fall, Pearl River Valley looks for two area high school juniors to participate in the program.

This Year’s Winners

Two local high school juniors, Mateo Roubakhsh of Sacred Heart High School and Lana Bishop of Stone County High School are the winners this year. In early March, they joined 81 other students from around the state in Jackson for the 36th annual Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop, where they met with legislators and took part in leadership training sessions.  In June 2023, both Mateo and Lana attended the Youth Tour of Washington, D.C.
