Youth Leadership Program

Our youth are an important part of our community, this is how we support them with our leadership program

Developing Future Leaders

In an effort to help develop the future leaders of our communities and state, Pearl River Valley Electric participates with other rural electric cooperatives in Mississippi in a statewide Youth Leadership Program.

The program is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to learn about electric power associations, how and why cooperatives operate, and how electricity is distributed, in addition to sharpening their leadership skills.

Each fall, Pearl River Valley looks for two area high school juniors to participate in the program. Check back here next fall for information about our 2024 program.

Learn more about the program and everything you need to know before you submit your essay.

This Year’s Winners

"I cannot thank PRVEPA enough for this opportunity. I really enjoyed my time networking with my peers from across the state. I will take what I learned from this workshop and apply them as I go back into my school and my community."- Connor Gibson, YLC member

Two local high school juniors, Connor Gibson and Abigail Hammons of Oak Grove High School are the winners this year. In early March, they joined 66 other students from around the state in Jackson for the 35th annual Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop, where they met with legislators and took part in leadership training sessions. Connor Gibson was named Mississippi's Youth Leadership Council Member. He will attend the NRECA Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN in 2023. Both Connor and Abigail will attend the Youth Tour of Washington D.C., June 19-24, 2022.
